Business meeting to discuss Local Government Re-organisation
Join the County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Local Government re-organisation Cllr Richard Rout, to learn more about Devolution and Local Government Reform and give your suggestions on how a new Council could better serve the business community.
Suffolk’s 50-year-old Local Government structure is being abolished and replaced with a new Unitary Council model. This will see a single Council delivering all services in a given area. Suffolk County Council believes that this should take the form of one Council for all of Suffolk, which it believes will be smarter, simpler and better for the County’s residents, businesses and the voluntary sector. It is the view of the County Council that this option presents the greatest opportunity to improve services, reduce bureaucracy and deliver value for money. The County Council is in the process of developing its Business Case for submission to Government in late September. Alongside this, is a separate Devolution arrangement, which will see a directly elected Mayor for Norfolk and Suffolk being created with the inaugural Mayoral Election taking place in May 2026.
