Lunch with Tom McGarry

Tom McGarry is Deputy Director of External Affairs for National Grid Strategic Infrastructure.

Tom has led consultation and communication campaigns in aviation, retail, housing and energy developments across all of the regions and nations of the UK.

Until early 2023 he led EDF Energy’s Regional External Affairs and Development Team for Sizewell C. The new Nuclear Power Station achieved development consent and Government investment in 2022. Having overseen the completion of legally binding financial commitments and pledges to communities and the local environment, Tom went on to join National Grid in 2023.

Currently, Tom leads his team delivering consultation and community relations for The Great Grid Upgrade, the largest overhaul of the Grid in England and Wales in decades. Tom lives in Suffolk with his two children. He lives five minutes by foot from Ipswich Town Football Club, where he is a season ticket holder. He is a former director of the East of England Energy Group.
