Join us at Milsoms Kesgrave Hall from 7pm on Thursday 9th November 2023.

Penny Mordaunt is a British politician who has been Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council since September 2022. A member of the Conservative Party, she has been Member of Parliament for Portsmouth North since May 2010.

In 2016, she was appointed as Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work, where she created the health and work reforms which helped a million disabled people into work. She campaigned and voted to leave the EU. In November 2017, she was promoted again into her first cabinet position as Secretary of State for International Development. She was also the UK Governor of the World Bank. She was appointed Minister for Women and Equalities, moving it out of the Department for Education and into the cabinet office. She shifted its work to focus on women’s financial resilience and opportunity, especially those trapped in low pay. Her work in these roles cumulated in the world’s first global disability summit which helped change humanitarian policy and increase access to assistive technology.

In 2021 she became Minister for trade policy overseeing all live trade negotiations, with a particular focus on CPTPP. She established the US state level MOU programme after President Biden slowed a US federal deal, opening negotiations with 50% of US states and signing the first three deals within a year.  In 2022 both Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak asked her to serve as Leader of the Commons and Lord President of the Council. In this role she oversaw both the Accession Council following the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the coronation of King Charles III. She has been a Royal Navy Reservist since 2009, completed officer training in 2013 and gaining an Honorary commission in 2019. She now holds the Hon Rank of Captain and is affiliated to MCM2 squadron, the UK’s mine hunters and Ocean patrol vessels.

We do hope you can join us for this exclusive evening event. Additional guest tickets are priced at £75.00 per person which includes a reception drink, 3-course meal and wine on the table.
